Gu Shiming is a representative inheritor of the birch bark painting, which is the sixth batch of intangible cultural heritage in Heilongjiang Province. He is a leading figure in the birch bark painting of Jiamusi City and has been committed to the exploration and development of birch bark painting. Birch bark painting fully utilizes the unique characteristics of birch bark to depict various landscapes in nature, enhancing the three-dimensional sense of the picture. By sticking birch bark and using oil paints and ink colors, the pictures become even more vivid and realistic. Gu Shiming also skillfully integrates Chinese and Western painting styles into the creation of birch bark paintings. With his hands, rough birch bark is given new artistic life, and he has created a large number of distinctive birch bark artworks over the years. Among them, "Lush Forest" and "Great Wall Majesty" have been collected by the Provincial New Building Museum.
